October was a single-series month for me — I spent the entire month inside the world of The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion, Volumes 5 through 7!
P.S. You may notice a different format here! I am transitioning away from a separate Book Club and “Everything I Read” rundown, and instead combining all the fun into one monthly post! And, instead of selecting a singular title to discuss for book cub each month, I will be sharing a preview of what I plan to read (“On the Bookshelf”), along with fun book news, gifts, and fun (“Book Bulletin”)! Thanks for evolving with me :)
The Lauren Letter will always be free. But if this space has become something you look forward to—a small ritual in your week, a source of inspiration, a reminder to approach life with more intention—you now have the option to support it.
Everything I Read
The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion, Vols. 5-7 by Beth Brower — ★★★★★
I adore these books. The best way I can describe them is if New Girl, Gilmore Girls, and Bridgerton had a literary love child: the found-family charm and comedy of the first, the warmth and witty banter of the second, filled with a cast of quirky community characters, and the romance and society intrigue of the third.
What makes this series so special for this time of year is how easy it is to sink into. These are true “pick up and put down” books, perfect for ten minutes before bed, a slow Sunday morning with coffee, or an afternoon curled up while it rains. No scheduling gymnastics required!
On the Bookshelf
The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion, Vol. 8
I’m 70% through Volume 8 and I’m savoring it! It’s the final installment until Volume 9 comes out in February, so I’m rationing chapters like the last of the Halloween candy. If you’ve been looking for a series to carry you through the cozy season, start now and you’ll be perfectly timed to join me in the new year!
Samantha: The Next Chapter by Fiona Davis
Calling every girl who begged for the Samantha doll for Christmas: she’s all grown up! To mark its 40th anniversary, American Girl released its first novel for adults, and it picks up with Samantha at 25 in 1920 New York City, fighting for justice after her family’s legacy is stolen, with women’s first presidential vote on the horizon.
The Impossible Fortune by Richard Osman
The Thursday Murder Club (one of my all time favorite cozy series) is back! Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim, and Ron are the most charming amateur sleuths in fiction, and visiting Coopers Chase always feels like coming home to old friends who happen to solve murders.
Book Bulletin
Did you see Amazon released a brand new slew of Kindle products, including this gorgeous french gray blue Kindle that would pair perfectly with this cover!!
Elin Hilderbrand shared with Woman’s World some of her favorite books!
Until next month, happy reading!
xx, Lauren
P.S. I promise to always keep The Lauren Letter free as my little exercise of trying to make the world a bit more beautiful. If, in return, you could considering giving this post a “like” or share with a friend, it would just mean the world to me.
