I like separating ‘being good with money’ from ‘not enjoying spending.’ A sustainable system should let you do both: automate the important future stuff first, then spend what’s left intentionally rather than with guilt. For most people, consistency on a few big decisions probably matters far more than optimizing every coffee.

Goes to show you don't need to be an expert to give solid advice. Very grounding and I loved how quickly we can waste 10k. So true and painful.

Lauren, I love this! Thanks so much for sharing on a sometimes ~taboo~ but so important topic! If you ever need ideas for future Lauren Letters I'm deeply invested and curious to know your thoughts on 1) the 13 part plan a girl can never be too prepared to win the lottery 2) the experiences and services that you find are worth it as a working woman to buy back time and make memories with loved ones (this is where I'm most tempted to inflate my lifestyle if you can't tell!) and 3) any further thoughts on combining finances and other responsibilities when you move in together as a couple or get married! I feel like you always have insightful advice and would love to know your thoughts on any of these. Thanks again for sharing!

I really enjoy learning from other people how they also manage their money! It’s something that’s not always easy to talk about but talking about it is really helpful as we can all learn from one another!! Paying myself first is one of the most helpful mindset shifts I’ve had in recent years. So glad you wrote this piece!
