Tuckernuck Sample Sale: FAQs and Tips & Tricks
Consider me your official Tuckernuck correspondent.
Every January—like clockwork, the week after MLK Jr. Day—Tuckernuck hosts its best sale of the entire year. As a not-so-secret Tuckernuck superfan, this is a week I actively look forward to. A meaningful chunk of my annual wardrobe comes from this very sale—the forever pieces, the wear-on-repeat staples, the items that quickly rack up enviable cost-per-wear stats. And truly? One of my greatest joys is sharing my finds with friends and pointing them toward pieces I know they’ll love.
That said, sales—especially good ones—have a way of making even the most level-headed among us feel a little panicky. Urgency creeps in, carts fill fast, and suddenly you’re spending in ways that don’t quite align with your real life or budget. These tips are my tried-and-true approach to keeping the experience fun and frugal instead of frazzled—so you walk away delighted, not overwhelmed.

My Tips & Tricks for Shopping the Sale Like a Pro
1. Create a budget—and stick to it.
Yes, the markdowns are excellent. Yes, you’ll feel the urgency humming in the background. But a good sale is only good if it works for you right now. Decide your number in advance and commit to it. You’ll shop more confidently—and enjoy your purchases far more—when there’s no buyer’s remorse lurking behind the joy.
2. Inventory what you actually need.
Before the sale goes live, take thirty minutes with your closet and your calendar.
Any trips coming up?
Weddings, showers, work events, seasonal gaps?
Shopping with intention transforms a sample sale from chaos into strategy. This is where you get pieces that will actually step into your life—not just your cart.
3. Block off time to shop early.
The sale usually opens around 7 a.m., often with a heads-up the evening or morning before. Popular silhouettes and core sizes go quickly, so even a first pass—filters on, coffee in hand—is worth it. Think of it as reconnaissance.
4. Remember: final sale means planning ahead.
This is not the time for guesswork. Be honest about your sizing across brands and silhouettes. If you’re between sizes or know a style runs slim or generous, factor that in before you click checkout.
5. Build a cart in advance.
This is one of my favorite strategies I learned from a friend this year. Add the pieces you genuinely want or need to your cart before the sale—and wait. In the past, apparently certain items have been automatically discounted once the sale goes live. Even better, this approach acts as a built-in restraint system: if it didn’t make your pre-sale cart, you probably don’t need it.
6. Use filters like a professional.
Filters are your best friend. I start with:
Size
Tuckernuck house brands first (they’re the backbone of my wardrobe)
Then specific designers I already know and love
This keeps the browsing focused and prevents the dreaded scroll spiral.
7. Don’t be afraid of multiple checkouts.
Yes, shipping may add up—but strategy matters. I like to:
Check out first with holy-grail, must-have pieces.
Then circle back for a second pass—something fun, unexpected, or a true steal
Priority first. Play later.
8. Keep checking back.
The sale typically runs for about three days, with new additions appearing along the way. What wasn’t there on day one may show up on day two. Persistence pays off.
9. Consult my Tuckernuck Staples guide.
If you need a refresher on tried-and-true silhouettes—or want sizing guidance on the pieces that have earned permanent residency in my closet—I’ve shared a full staples article to guide you through it.
10. Shop along with me!
